Transforming Indian cities into more livable spaces

India as a country is under pressure of proper utilization of its resources and distributing the benefits to the her wast demographic profile. In this case structure and governance of the Indian cities are facing lot of challenges as they are not in a good state to face those challenges which makes them more prune for failure and paradoxes.

Present State of Indian Cities and Challenges in front of them
  • Mainly following are the challenges at present.
  • Urbanization and centralized urbanization where whole country is just moving towards four of five cities.
  • Mismanagement of resources and no proper coordination among so many development committees and agencies.
  • No vision for the cities and no concept developed to create and develop more highly developed cities so that problem of urbanization, health and unemployment could be solved.
  • Apart from this corruption is one of the main issues where relevant requirements are not assigned resources and less priority things are allocated resources.
  • Lack of people and civil society people participation
These are some examples where we are lagging behind in making our cities world class. Out policy makers should have made the choice of creating three type of cities buy listing concrete facilities and targeting them in cohesive and concurrent manner. Following are some suggestion/recommendations for solution

  • Incorporating integrated approach for cities development
  • Making proper planning and its social impact analysis and incorporating those issues and their solution in the framework.
  • Designing the cities development solution under six to sevens heading such as
  • Land utilization, Health facilities, Employment, Environmental Concern transportation, Political structuring, Financial resource management, Industrialization and cultural aspect and indication of stakeholder in each categories with the policy implementers.
  • Above mentioned each category will take it forward and initiate integrated city development plan.
  • Time bound monitoring process with strict implementation of guidelines is necessary.
These steps are required to be incorporated in this process of building the system which is sustainable and cohesive and inclusive.

Corporate Social Responsibility

Corporate Social Responsibility Bill 2013 is appreciated and will be one the good decision taken by government. I am particularly glad as I see good prospects in most of the sector where corporate institutions can make their presence felt by contributing with their resources.
Indian education system, particularly Higher education system and research is not as good as it should be. India is a youth country which require good education which must be practical oriented and must be able to create employment. We can get benefits by collaborating with Multinationals ti improve technical skill and domain specific skill in education sector with more involvement which again will them as they will get quality and skilled human resources.

Lots of things can be covered under CSR umbrella but only vision and innovative thinking is needed.
